This year, thanks to the financial support of Youth, Employment and Skills (YES) project by GIZ, Germin is organizing a five-day multidisciplinary civic hacking program that will allow you to bring your ideas to life through teamwork, exchange of ideas and positive competition.
Our goal is to HACK real life problems by providing cost-effective solutions, rekindle the connection between diaspora and young professionals from local communities in the Western Balkans, and to develop a network of empowered individuals who are willing to inspire, engage and connect.
Instructions for applicants regarding the programme Diaspora School in Kosovo
The DSK program will be implemented in a hackathon format, allowing participants to work together, compete with each other and design a feasible solution to a specific problem facing the local communities.
The Diaspora School in Kosovo programme:
Applicants fill out the online application form. After pre-selection of the applicants there will be an online-interview with selected candidates organized by Germin.
Selected applicants will be invited to attend a five day program to co-create innovative and cost-effective solutions with the highest potential impact on the economic growth of local communities.
The best three ideas for municipality will benefit a mentorship, traning, and seed money (1st place, 6000EUR, 2nd place, 5000, and 3rd place 4000) so that participants can start implementing their projects in Malisheva and Prizren, the two cities selected for this pilot project.
Awarded teams will start implementing their ideas and will be mentored by one online diaspora mentor on monthly bases.
Who can apply?
Candidates from 18 to 35 years of age, from Kosovo, the Diaspora*, and the Western Balkans Region**
Applicants who have potential to drive social change in the local communities and be an active player in its implementation
Have a working knowledge of English

How long will the call for applications remain open?
The call for applications is open from 07 September to 27 September 2017, 23:59 Central European Time.. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
How and when will we inform you?
Successful applicants will be informed via email and/or SMS latest by first week of October 2017. Therefore, please enter your emails and phone numbers correctly. In case you have NOT received any email/SMS by the October, then you have not been selected.
Where and when will the program take place?
Program will be held in Prizren and Malisheva. The program will last for 5 days, from 11 – 15 October, 2017.
